2. Hai di Lao, just outside the west gate. Hot pot dining experience, outstanding service and food. This is one of the most popular 'strants in Xi'an so get there early. If you need to wait they will give you a free shoeshine or manicure. An absolute feast will cost 2 people around 100 rmb. Don't forget to order a noodle (you will love the noodle guy)

3. Dai Jia Lou Yunnan Ethnic Minority Restaurant on West street (near the west gate, there is a big elephant outside). Great food in southern Chinese style and fantastic decorations. You can order half dishes so you can taste as many yummy selections as your heart desires. There is usually a live show of ethnic minorities on Thursday- Sunday nights, though you should call to confirm and book

4. Banana Leaf Thai restaurant. Excellent Thai cuisine, wonderful ambiance, live music and much more. Ask us for directions (it is somewhere in the south west quarter inside the walls).

5. The Mogui Café, just around the corner by the fire station. Offers a very comfortable environment, soft couches, a decent club toasted sandwich (15rmb) and Chinese nosh. Wireless internet available and an endless list of "real" coffee.

6. The Muslim Quarter. You can't go too wrong in our backyard! Fantastic selection of quality restaurants, snacks and street food
